Book Review

Simply a delightful read! My 11 year old and I chuckled quite a bit throughout the story. The illustrations were entertaining as was the story. My daughter loves basketball, so was immediately anxious to read the story. And Miss Priss, one busy 10 year old girl, didn't disappoint her. Judy Phillips did an amazing job with keeping the reader engaged and the illustrations by Brenda Nichols complimented the story.

My daughter and I highly recommend this story. Miss Priss: On and Off the Court is packed with lots of humor and plenty of kid growing moments.

Judy Phillips is an educator with over twenty years of experience and is currently a counselor at Samuel Houston Elemen-tary School in Huntsville, Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and a Master of Education degree in Coun-seling from Sam Houston State University. My Review of Mini-Myths:

Absolutely loved both of these books! The illustrations are fun and simple, as is the text. Perfect for a toddler or earlier preschooler.

As soon as the books arrived, I showed them to my two year old. We sat down to read them both. She giggled as we read Be Patient, Pandora! My two year old is very much like Pandora - curious, inquisitive, and impatient. But what toddler isn't? Pandora is tempted to find out what is in the wrapped up box. Her mom warns her not to touch it. But the wrapped gift is way too tempting for Pandora. This book teaches children to listen to their parents and the consequences of not listening. It also teaches kids that sometimes its better to wait because the surprise can be so much fun!

Play Nice, HERCULES was just as entertaining. Like every big brother, he torments his little sister by knocking down some blocks she built. She cries and he rebuilds her creation. But his lesson isn't finished there. I don't want to spoil the ending because it really captured a kid moment perfectly. This book teaches kids the importance of forgiveness, sharing, and playing nicely together.

We are now huge fans of the Mini-Myths children's picture books. Perfect for stocking stuffers for the holidays or just a little treat!

MY REVIEW

I personally read the first book in the Noah Zarc trilogy and found it an adventurous read! Time travel, robots, spaceships and more! I became a huge fan of the main character, an amazingly courageous twelve year old 'paraplegic' boy named Noah whose disability never stopped him from doing anything he set his mind too. And as a mom with a daughter living with a disability (type 1 diabetes) all you want is help them achieve their potential and go after their dreams. Even though my daughters disease isn't physical, like Noah's, it does affect her physical ability to be able to play sports and reach her intellectual and physical potential. Noah encourages all kids to perservere!

Now about the author. Amazing! The Zarc family relationship reminded me a lot of mine. There was trust, worry, responsibility and lots of sibling sarcasm. His ability to connect multiple time periods and his creative ability in making you feel like you actually are part of the story will make this a fun read for any kid. As such, I give it a....

About the Author: David Chuka

David Chuka lives in London with his lovely wife and two adorable children. His family are usually the first people to hear his funny and quirky tales. He was inspired to write his first book, 'If You See a Doctor' after he struggled to find a book for his daughter who was a beginner reader.

How One Child's Book Report Inspired An Author | Working Mother

As a children's author, I often wonder if one of my children's books touched a child's life. Last night, I received an unexpected surprise email from an eight year old girl who lives in California.

In the email, Sophia shared that she chose one of my children's chapter books - Madison and GA Tale of the Slimy Spitball- to write a book report about. Immediately, a smile filled my face. I was so honored that one of my books was one that a child picked for their school project to share with their class.

As I continued to read, I was blown away with the creativity and talent that this eight year old girl had. She actually wrote and sang a song for her book report about Madison and GA (My Guardian Angel) Tale of the Slimy Spitball and shared it on Youtube.

The lyrics are great and her voice is precious! And the song actually sticks in your head once you hear it.

As an author who hoped to make a difference in a child's life, this little girl made a difference in mine! I look forward to more kids doing the same and to hear about how one book inspired them to go after their dreams and believe in themselves!

Betsy's Day at the Game Children's Book Review

Book reviews are so important before a book is released. And Greg Bancroft, an author, a father and a grandfather, asked me if I would review Betsy's Day at the Game. I was honored and excited, especially because I love baseball!

Before I start the review, I'd like to share how important it is for an author to have readers comment on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other ebookstores. It helps the author build their reputation, increase their sales and gain creditability. What a reader has to be aware of is that their review can truly impact an author's success. Honesty is key. But also making sure that your review is about the author's writing and not the publisher's formatting or your ereaders technical limitations. Technology still has a lot of limitations, and to place blame on the author whose primary skill is writing, when it is a technical issue with the readers ereader is truly insensitive.

So, when you write a review for an author on an ebookstore, please write the review about the story. And think about how your words will affect an artists career and how you would feel if someone wrote those words about something you poured a lot of heart and soul into.

Now to sharing my review of Betsy's Day at the Game!

Betsy loves hanging out with her grandfather, especially at the baseball park. Today is another game day, and Betsy is ready to show her grandpa all she's learned about keeping score. Betsy keeps track of it all - foul balls, home runs, and favorite players - but more exciting things are about to happen than just what's on her scoresheet.

"Elisabeth, Grandpa's here," Betsy's mom called out. A car pulled in to the driveway. Betsy came running with her Boo Bag.

"Grandpa!" Bests shrieked as she jumped into his arms. her grandfather swung her around and gave her a kiss.

"Are you ready for some baseball, Betsy Boo?" he asked her, using her nickname.

Synopsis
A grandfather takes his granddaughter to a professional baseball game, sharing the joys and excitements in every inning by keeping track of every strike, ball, hit and run. But what makes her experience even more special is the time she shares with her grandfather, learning all about his favorite team and players.

Opinion
What a wonderfully written story that every grandparent should share with their grandchild. It took me back to the days when my grandfather sat in the stands watching me play fast pitch softball. He was my biggest fan. And in this story, Betsy and her grandfather are sharing something special and learning in the process.

I had my three elementary aged children also read this book; and at the very end, all three were wiping tears from their eyes from the joy of sharing Betsy's Day at the Game. They also were eager to rip out the pages and start keeping track of their softball and baseball games, which made me realize that this book truly is a starter book and what would compliment it is by giving your child their own scorebook.

What I enjoyed

• The illustrations were soft and friendly. They truly complimented this heartwarming story.
• The authors ability to provide such great detail and warmth, making you feel like this family was your own.
• The detailed examples on teaching a child how to keep score provided a great intro for any child who was looking to learn how to keep score at any baseball game.
• The ending truly touched my heart, making me want to share in every special occasion with my own children just like Betsy did with her grandfather.

 What you need to be prepared for

• The story teaches your child how to keep score throughout the story. There were times where my kids found it a little too detailed and wanted to skip to find out what happened at the end of the game. But that's a kid. I explained to them that this book was to share a story and to also teach them how to keep score. They wished they had a scorebook in front of them so they could follow as they read. I photocopied the pages, so they could. And smiles formed on their faces.
• My children also kept asking me what the teams name was. It was a little harder for them to bond with the team, because the author didn't create a fictitious team name. So created one ourselves. And again, they loved that they were able to share in the authors creation of the story.

Overall, this book is a great gift for any child who plays baseball or softball, or is heading to a professional baseball game.

I'm giving the book a 4.5 star rating based on my opinion above.
